Earn Money While Bloging

In our last poll of the month, I asked the question: “Which social networking site do you use the most for your online business?”

And, based on 129 respondents, it was found that Facebook was the most popular social networking tool being used by JMMO readers and visitors (49%) who run their own online businesses.

Twitter comes as a far second, with 28% respondents saying that they use it for their online business. Then, there are MySpace (13%) and LinkedIn (10%) users.

There are a lot of ways to earn money online free from all the trouble and headaches of putting up a traditional business. Making one’s hobby into something that can earn money is a good way to spend one’s time. It is rewarding to give people new ideas and tips, at the same time, getting back some earnings from online affiliates.

A lot of folks are into blogging lately. Search for something on the net, and almost always you can find a blog related to what you are searching for. There are blogs about parenting, motherhood, children, school, cooking, carpentry, gardening, computer hardware and software, computer programming, music, movies, videos, spirituality, religion, politics, charity, money making, businesses, and a whole lot more. Most of these topics are discussed in depth, and is just the blogger’s way of expressing his thoughts and opinions.

Now if a blogger can spend a few hours a day in front of the computer composing his articles, and hours the whole day thinking of the next topics to be posted, why not find a way to earn money online free with just a little adjustments in one’s blog?

Some of the options include signing up with an affiliate marketing company or site, or placing keywords with links in posts, which is a strategy of some web advertisers, instead of using banners and ads. Being part of affiliate marketing sites does not cost anything.

Although one should also note that it will earn money in the long term, but not instantly. It will also depend on the blog’s prominence in the blogosphere. The more visitors one’s blog has, the more probability that the readers click on the ads and links on the website, therefore increasing the chances of getting commissions from these advertisers.

Some bloggers have developed blogs specifically to earn money online – free. Most of these blogs focus on a specific theme or topic, and provide resources, links, reviews and insights on these topics. One particular topic is parenting.

There are lots of parenting blogs out there, giving tips to first time parents, cooking nutritious meals for the kids, or choosing the best pre-school in town. Some provide resources for pregnant wives, and links to other websites that give similar tips and resources.

There are blogs that are maintained not just by one author, but several authors that share the same interests. This gives it more spice, as the views provided are varied, and can cater to more readers. If the blog is monetized, then the group can share the revenue when it is large enough to be encashed.

Other blogs are put up to directly sell products or services to customers. The blog is put up to provide more information on the products and services, helping the entrepreneur earn money online free from the hassles of traditional advertising.

One only needs to be creative in putting up the blog – the title or blog name should be catchy and relevant and of course, related to the products or services being offered. The blog should also be updated regularly, lest it would not be on top of the Google search list for keyword search.

Affiliate programs are also very attractive to companies because it is the least cost but most effective way of marketing online. Most potential customers go online everyday, and this is the target market of affiliate programs. Most people are influenced by other people, especially their friends, so these programs lead to a referral system, and chances are if a friend tells another that a certain company or product is good, that friend will try it out. The great thing about shopping online is most of them have delivery services, which may have an additional cost.

One can also earn money online for a living answering surveys for independent entities that do research and studies. These studies are usually used by manufacturing companies to see the trend and demand in the market, and will determine their strategies on which product to manufacture, how it will be marketed, which countries it will be more in demand, and which products to take off the shelf or improve on.

While answering surveys are relatively easy, earning from it will take a lot of surveys. The payment for each survey is only minimal, so ideally, one should sign up with more online survey sites to get more chances of being sent survey forms to fill out.

Others earn money online for providing virtual services like being a virtual assistant for a company, much like being a secretary for a virtual boss, but the earnings are definitely not virtual. Other opportunities include writing web content articles and submitting them to an online administrator. There are lots of ways of making money online. It’s just a matter of getting involved in the best ones.

Google AdSense program has made it easier for webmasters to make money through a website. Webmasters who run an AdSense campaign will display Google’s contextual Ads relevant to the content of their sites and thus encouraging visitors to click the ads and earn money for each ad click.

However, you will earn very little AdSense revenue if you don’t know how to optimize your AdSense ads on your website. Here are some tips to increase your AdSense earning:

1. Focus on one Adsense ad format. The Large Rectangle (336X280) ad format seems to work better than other ad formats because this format tends to result in higher click through rates (CTR). Another reason is that the ads will look like normal web links that visitors use to click on them. It doesn’t matter whether the visitors know that they are clicking AdSense ads or not, as long as there are clicking, you earn AdSense commission.

2. Create a custom palette for your ads. Select a color that matches your website’s background. If your site’s background is white both, the color of ad border and background should set to be white too. Also the color of the ad title should be similar to coloe of the links in your website. This is to make your AdSense ads look like it is part of the web pages. Again, this will boost AdSense CTR.

3. Don’t place your AdSense ads at the bottom of your webpages because it is proven to be less effective. Displaying your AdSense ads at the bottom is like hiding your AdSense and thus leads to low CTR and AdSense revenue. Try to put them in the place where people can see them quickly. You will be amazed how the difference between AdSense locations can make when you see your earnings.

4. Try to place your AdSense ads near rich content as visitors main focus usually are your content. There are several ways to insert AdSense ads into your content and one of the ways is place your AdSense just after the end of your content.

5. Try to automate the insertion of your AdSense code into the webpages using SSI (or server side included). Ask your web administrator if your server supports SSI or not. How do you do it? Just save your AdSense code in a text file, name it as “AdSense text”, and upload it to the root directory of the web server. Then use SSI, call the code on other pages. This tip is a time saver especially for those who are using automatic page generators to generate pages on their website.

These are some of the tips that have worked well for some who want to generate hundreds and even thousands on their websites. There are other ways to optimize your AdSense that produce high CTR also. You can learn more tricks by reading in AdSense and webmaster forums.

5 Tips to Boost Your Adsense Revenue

Happy 1st of June! Here Down Under, this month marks the beginning of Winter. Not my favourite season, I have to admit (I get cold easily!). But, I do realise that each season brings its own beauty. I do like the fact that the surroundings look a lot greener at this time of the year, due to the rains. I also enjoy the cozy feeling of being able to sit in front of a warm fire on a cold winter’s day.

What about you? What do you look forward to the most every time a new month starts - or when a new season begins?

When it comes to my online ventures, new months mean getting paid for my efforts from the previous month. My bank/Paypal account looks a bit healthier, thanks to such payments.

New seasons also mean having to re-evaluate certain aspects of my online work. It has been traditionally known that things go a bit slower on the web during this time of the year because it’s the summer months in North America. So, this means I need to figure out how to make the most out of such a situation.
